The Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards honored top talent in film, television, music videos, and live theater on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at The Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel. The event, presented by L’Oréal Groupe and Giovanni Eco Chic Beauty, took place before a live audience and was streamed worldwide on YouTube and Vimeo.
In film categories, The Substance and Wicked each earned two awards. The Substance was recognized for Best Contemporary Make-Up and Best Special Make-Up Effects, while Wicked received awards in Best Period and/or Character Make-Up and Best Period and/or Character Hair Styling. These wins celebrated the work of artists whose efforts shape the visual identity of the films.
Television categories also saw significant achievements. Saturday Night Live led its group by winning four awards, including categories for Contemporary Make-Up, Period and/or Character Make-Up, Special Make-Up Effects, and Period and/or Character Hair Styling. Other programs such as Emily in Paris, Abbott Elementary, and Bridgerton were among the honorees, reflecting the diversity of styles and techniques in today’s television landscape.
The awards extended to daytime shows, children’s and teen programming, and the world of commercials and music videos. The Jennifer Hudson Show received honors in both make-up and hair styling, and Nickelodeon’s Danger Force took home Best Make-Up for children and teen programming.
In the live theatrical productions segment, recognition was given to productions across regional and international stages. LA Opera’s Madame Butterfly earned the award for California Regional Live Theater Production, while Broadway’s production of The Great Gatsby secured the honor for Broadway and International Live Theater Production.
The evening also featured honorary awards. Allison Janney was presented with the 2025 Distinguished Artisan Award, while lifetime achievement honors were given to make-up artist Todd McIntosh and hair stylist Peter Tothpal. The Vanguard Award was awarded to RCMA Makeup.
