Disney+ has confirmed that A Shop for Killers, its high-impact Korean action series, will return for a second season. The announcement follows the show’s strong performance across Asia-Pacific markets and marks the latest entry in the platform’s expanding slate of Korean-language programming.
Based on the novel by Kang Ji-young, A Shop for Killers centers on Ji-an, a college student whose life is upended when her uncle, Jinman, disappears under suspicious circumstances. Raised by him and trained in survival, Ji-an finds herself under siege by professional assassins who are after the vast weapons cache left behind. The series blends real-time action with sequences from Ji-an’s childhood, offering a dual narrative that explores her uncle’s past and her own evolving skillset.
The second season will see the return of Lee Dongwook as Jinman and Kim Hyejun as Ji-an. Both actors were central to the first season’s story, which charted Ji-an’s efforts to defend herself and uncover the truth behind her uncle’s secret life. Lee’s portrayal of Jinman provided a mix of precision and unpredictability, while Kim’s performance drew attention for her control of a character caught between loss and escalating danger.
New additions to the cast include Masaki Okada, known for Drive My Car and We’re Millenials. Got a Problem?, and Hyunri, recognized for roles in Pachinko and The Naked Director. Their roles have not yet been detailed, but their casting signals an expanded scope for the series in its upcoming season.
Director and screenwriter Lee Kwon returns to lead the production, alongside writer Ji Hojin. The creative team is continuing its partnership from the first season, which debuted on Disney+ and Hulu in January 2024. Their previous credits include Save Me 2 and Door Lock.
The first season received strong critical and audience reactions. It was included in The New York Times list of “Best International Shows,” and it has maintained high ratings across major platforms. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series currently holds a 98 percent audience score and a 100 percent rating from critics. Its success follows a wave of Korean programming backed by Disney+, including Moving and Light Shop, both developed by writer Kang Full.
While no release date has been set for season two, production is underway. Disney+ has confirmed that the show will remain available internationally through its platform, with Hulu continuing as the U.S. distributor.
A Shop for Killers is part of a larger programming strategy from Disney+ Korea. The upcoming slate includes Nine Puzzles, a dark mystery; Low Life, focused on hidden treasure; and Tempest, which explores global conspiracy. These titles are expected to release over the next year as the service builds on the international attention garnered by its Korean-language projects.
