Peter Krause has left 9-1-1 following the death of his character, Captain Bobby Nash, in Season 8, Episode 15, titled “Lab Rats.” The episode aired April 17 and depicts Nash sacrificing himself during a viral containment emergency.
During the episode, a fire at a laboratory leads to the release of a deadly virus. Nash remains behind after discovering a breach in his own oxygen line, which exposes him to the contagion. He helps administer care to several team members, including Hen and Chimney, before sending them to safety. After a final exchange with his wife Athena, Nash succumbs to the virus alone inside the lab.
Aisha Hinds, who plays Hen, posted a message on Instagram after the episode aired. “Peter Krause is a stunning actor. His canon of work has always confirmed that, and witnessing him give full breadth, depth, humor, and physical energy to @911onabc episode after episode is a special honor I will never ever take for granted,” she wrote.
Hinds called Krause’s portrayal a “model of integrity and character to the very end” and described his impact on the cast as both personal and professional. “Grateful for the times he took care of my heart… Grateful for the ways he ignited a laughter that got us through long days and nights,” she said.
Krause first appeared as Bobby Nash in the series premiere in 2018. The character was introduced as a fire captain rebuilding his life in Los Angeles following a family tragedy. His storylines included recovery from addiction, mentoring younger firefighters, and his relationship with Athena Grant.
Krause released a statement after the broadcast, addressing the cast directly: “I will miss my partner, Angela Bassett. Her strength and her sweetness, and us holding hands. We parted ways too soon. I will miss my beloved and unruly children of the 118… Misfit heroes need each other. That’s how we do it at our firehouse. Pass it along to the next new guy.”
Showrunner Tim Minear said the decision to write out the character was a scripted choice for the series. According to Minear, several cast members voiced their opposition to the change. Krause also served as an executive producer on the show.
