Disney+ and UK broadcaster ITV have struck what both companies call a “first-of-its-kind” reciprocal agreement that will place curated selections of each other’s programmes on their respective streaming services from 16 July. The initiative, branded “A Taste of Disney+” on ITV’s free-to-watch ITVX platform and “A Taste of ITVX” on Disney+ Standard with Ads, will rotate titles every few months to showcase marquee content without extra charges.
ITVX viewers will gain limited-time access to Disney+ series such as The Bear, Andor and Only Murders in the Building, alongside family animation including Lilo & Stitch: The Series and Phineas and Ferb. Disney+ subscribers, meanwhile, will be offered ITV hits ranging from reality staple Love Island to recent drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office and espionage thriller Spy Among Friends.
Advertising inventory will be split: ITV Commercial will sell spots around Disney selections on ITVX, while Disney will handle sales for ITV content on its own ad-supported tier. Both parties position the model as a low-risk sampler designed to lure new subscribers and boost ad revenue at a time when UK households juggle multiple services and free-to-air broadcasters face slowing linear audiences.
Joe Earley, president of Disney Entertainment’s direct-to-consumer division, said the collaboration would “encourage ITVX viewers to discover Disney+’s award-winning series and blockbuster films,” while ITV streaming chief Rufus Radcliffe called it “a smart way to extend reach for both brands.”
Industry analysts note that reciprocal distribution resembles the traditional practice of channel bundling and may foreshadow deeper alliances as regulation tightens; Ofcom has signalled a desire for streaming platforms to carry more UK public-service content or face tougher rules. ITV Studios already produces several Disney+ originals—including the upcoming drama Rivals—and ITV remains the free-to-air partner for Disney’s historical fantasy Renegade Nell, suggesting further cross-pollination ahead.
