No new Sofia Falcone for Gotham’s next big-screen chapter. On the Emmys red carpet, writer-director Matt Reeves said Cristin Milioti will not appear in The Batman Part II, explaining that the sequel’s story was already far along when The Penguin was in release. Reeves praised Milioti’s performance and the show’s creative team, adding that future possibilities remain open even if she is not in this installment.
The clarification addresses months of speculation fueled by Milioti’s breakout turn as Sofia and the series’ closing beat hinting at a connection to Selina Kyle. Milioti won her first Emmy for the role the same night, amplifying questions about whether the character would cross over to the films. Reeves’ comments narrow expectations for the sequel without ruling out later use.
Reeves has said the script is finished and that Robert Pattinson read a tightly guarded copy delivered in a locked pouch, part of heightened efforts to protect story details. The sequel is aiming to start filming in spring 2026, with a theatrical release dated for October 1, 2027, continuing this corner of Gotham under the Elseworlds banner apart from DC’s mainline slate.
