‘The Pitt’ Star Isa Briones Loses Patience With Fans Who Yell TV References at Her on Broadway

The actress, currently playing Connie Francis in Broadway's Just In Time*, says fans shouting her TV character's name mid-performance disrespects both the cast and fellow audience members — and it's happened more than once.*

Isa Briones has had enough. The actress, best known for playing Dr. Trinity Santos on HBO Max’s The Pitt, publicly called out audience members at Just In Time on Broadway who have shouted references to her television role at her mid-performance — and she did not mince words.

“Hey, hey, hey!” Briones wrote on her Instagram Story. “Once again, Broadway is not a circus. Do not yell whatever you want at the performers. Yelling ‘when are you going to finish your charts’ before I sing ‘Who’s Sorry Now?’ is fucking disrespectful to the performers onstage and your fellow audience members. Y’all are pissin’ me off.” She closed the post with: “Love and light and please remember you are occupying shared spaces and watching art.”

The remark “finish your charts” references a plotline from The Pitt’s second season, where Briones’s character faced pressure over paperwork — a detail entirely out of place at a Bobby Darin jukebox musical at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Briones joined Just In Time on April 1 in the role of Connie Francis.

This was not a first. Back on April 13, Briones had already spoken out after an audience member shouted “Dr. Santos” at her during a performance, with Briones stating that “some people need to brush up on theater etiquette” and reminding theatergoers that she is “not Dr. Santos” but “Isa Briones, one of the actors in the show you have paid to enjoy.”

Briones made her Broadway debut in 2024 as Eurydice in Hadestown before breaking out as part of The Pitt’s ensemble. The show’s first season earned 13 Emmy nominations and won five, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor for Noah Wyle. Season 2 premiered on January 8.

The incidents sit within a well-documented pattern of audience misconduct at Broadway houses. In 2015, Patti LuPone physically grabbed a phone from a woman texting during a performance, and in December 2025, a viral clip captured an audience member at Mamma Mia! yelling at fellow patrons behind him. Industry observers have linked the escalation to audiences raised on digital media, where the instinct to react, comment, and interact bleeds into spaces that demand the opposite.

As one theater commentator put it, “Somewhere along the way, too many people started treating live performance like a space they get to interrupt just because they recognize someone. A Broadway house is not your living room.”

Just In Time follows the life and career of Bobby Darin, with Jeremy Jordan, who took over from Glee’s Matthew Morrison on April 21, now leading the cast as Darin. The production continues its run at Circle in the Square, where the intimate, in-the-round staging makes any audience disruption acutely felt by every performer on stage.
