“Nobody Wants This” creator Erin Foster says the story of Joanne and Noah has room to run, and Netflix has not yet said whether it will let her tell it for a fourth season. The romantic comedy, starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, has become a fall fixture on the streamer. Its first three seasons arrived each September or October starting in 2024, and a fourth would land in fall 2027 if Netflix renews it. That decision remains pending, with the third-season finale expected to signal whether the door stays open.
Foster has said since the beginning that she planned a long arc. Before the second season, she told TheWrap there was “so much more story to tell.” She also said the first season unfolded slowly, and that she wanted to keep that pace instead of racing ahead. The show draws on her own life. It is loosely based on her relationship with her husband, though some plot points were added for entertainment, and the emotional journey is accurate, she says.
Netflix has moved fast before. It renewed the series for a second season roughly two weeks after the debut. It ordered a third season shortly after season two premiered on Oct. 23, 2025. Foster said she would write about her “favorite couple” for as long as the streamer wanted. That history makes the current silence notable.
The show’s success surprised its creator. Foster has said the first season’s popularity happened by accident and that she hopes viewers stay satisfied. The production has also changed hands. Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan joined as showrunners for season two.
Questions of cost and appetite will shape the call. One outlet framed the decision as whether Netflix believes another season justifies the investment. The core relationship still drives the premise. Bell described the central conflict as a couple facing “an incredible amount of friction” over conversion and identity. Bell, Brody, Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons and Jackie Tohn would be expected to return if Netflix says yes.
