Sarah Steele will reprise Marissa Gold on Elsbeth this fall, setting up a reunion with Carrie Preston’s title character and reconnecting the long-running Good Wife/Good Fight universe on broadcast. In a first-look reveal, producers confirmed Marissa now works as campaign manager to New York mayoral hopeful Alec Bloom, played by Ivan Hernandez. The character crosses paths with Elsbeth at a charity benefit in an episode titled “Poetic Justice,” with William Jackson Harper guesting as the head of a struggling poetry journal. Creators Robert and Michelle King praised Steele’s return and credited showrunner Jonathan Tolins with shaping the crossover.

The appearance updates Marissa’s arc since she was last seen departing Chicago for a D.C. job in The Good Fight’s finale, and it signals continued traffic between franchises even as Elsbeth has carved out its own New York–set case-of-the-week rhythm. Season 3 opens with a special “sneak” airing on Sunday, October 12, before settling into its regular Thursday slot on October 16 at 10/9c, with streaming on Paramount+. The scheduling pairs the series with Matlock’s second season premiere on the same Sunday and restores Elsbeth to its late-evening perch later that week.

The show’s guest-star bench has been a calling card across its first two seasons, and the new run follows suit: the premiere features Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, and Andy Richter, while “Poetic Justice” adds Harper alongside Steele’s return as Marissa. The creative team has framed these appearances as extensions of character-driven mysteries rather than stunt casting, aligning with the series’ inverted “howcatchem” format and its emphasis on Elsbeth’s observational style inside NYPD investigations.

Behind the scenes, Elsbeth remains under the stewardship of Tolins with the Kings as executive producers, a setup that has helped balance weekly puzzles with ongoing character threads. Steele’s guest spot gives fans of the parent shows a fresh check-in on Marissa while positioning Elsbeth to explore City Hall politics, campaign money, and media flashpoints inside its procedural frame.
