On Wednesday, Google rolled out the latest Android and Pixel update with a delay of two days, which arrived simultaneously on all actively supported Pixel smartphones as was hoped – including the Pixel 6. However, they actually seem to have “forgotten” an update that they had promised some time ago. The latest update for the Pixel 3a smartphones was not included.
Once a month, Google releases a major security update for the Pixel smartphones, fixing the most important security gaps and bugs on the smartphones, and sometimes it also includes functional updates.
The update guarantee is provided for three years, but this initially long period will eventually be over. Officially, the Pixel 3a smartphones have not been supported since May 2022, but shortly before the last guaranteed update, another update had been announced:
In May 2019 at the launch of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, we announced that the devices would receive three years of software updates and three years of security updates from when our devices first became available on the Google Store. The final update for Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will rollout to users by July 2022.
The intention was to roll out a kind of best-of update to the smartphones in July, updating them for the last time. This is now a common procedure and was handled by Google for all Pixel smartphones that were put on the sidelines.
But the July round is now over and there was no update for the two Pixel 3a smartphones. Has it not been ready in time, is it exceptionally coming at a later date or is it being postponed to August?
There is no word on when the update is supposed to follow. Google has officially announced it, so they have to deliver in some form and the remaining Pixel 3a users can still look forward to the latest update.
