With the highly anticipated Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 set to release on September 26, CD Projekt is making changes to the game’s system requirements. The goal is to ensure that players have a clearer understanding of what is needed to achieve optimal performance.

These adjustments also reflect the advancements in PC gaming hardware since the original game’s launch, including support for new GPU hardware that wasn’t available previously.

The Transition to SSD and End of Hard Drive Support

One notable change in the updated system requirements is the mandatory use of an SSD (Solid State Drive). While hard drives will still technically function with Cyberpunk 2077, active support for them will be discontinued, and future updates will not be tested on HDD-based setups.

The shift to SSD highlights the benefits of solid-state technology, including increased speed and improved performance. The move aligns with the industry trend, as other games like Starfield have also adopted SSD as a minimum requirement.

Benefits of Solid-State Drives

Solid-state drives offer numerous advantages, such as their compact size, faster data access, and silent operation. In recent years, the cost of SSDs has become more affordable, making them an attractive option for gamers. Upgrading to an SSD can provide a transformative experience, enhancing loading times and overall system performance.

Revised Cyberpunk 2077 System Requirements

The updated system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 are as follows:

Minimum Requirements (In-game graphics preset low, resolution 1080p, expected FPS 30):

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • Processor: Core i7-6700 or Ryzen 5 1600
  • Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 580 8GB or Arc A380
  • VRAM: 6GB
  • RAM: 12GB
  • Storage: 70GB SSD

Recommended Requirements (In-game graphics preset high, resolution 1080p, expected FPS 60):

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • Processor: Core i7-12700 or Ryzen 7 7800X
  • Graphics Card: GeForce RTX 2060 Super or Radeon RX 5700 XT or Arc A770
  • VRAM: 8GB
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Storage: 70GB SSD

Ultra Requirements (In-game graphics preset ultra, resolution 2160p, expected FPS 60):

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • Processor: Core i9-12900 or Ryzen 9 7900X
  • Graphics Card: GeForce RTX 3080 or Radeon RX 7900 XTX
  • VRAM: 12GB
  • RAM: 20GB
  • Storage: 70GB NVME

Implications and Considerations

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

The updated system requirements indicate a shift towards more capable hardware, with increased RAM recommendations and improved CPU and GPU specifications. While these changes are not drastic, it is essential for players to be aware of them, especially if their current PC configuration falls near the minimum requirements.

Nonetheless, the original minimum hardware specifications will still allow players to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 with some visual quality compromises.

As CD Projekt prepares for the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, they have adjusted the game’s system requirements to accommodate the evolving PC gaming landscape.

The transition to SSD as a mandatory requirement and the discontinuation of hard drive support reflect the benefits of solid-state technology. With the updated system requirements, players can ensure they have the necessary hardware to fully immerse themselves in the Cyberpunk 2077 experience.
