DLSS Returns to Lords of the Fallen: A Dive into Patch 1.1.193

The gaming community has been abuzz with the latest updates to “Lords of the Fallen.” Following its release, the game faced several performance issues, leading to a mixed reception among players.

However, recent patches, particularly Patch 1.1.193, have introduced significant improvements, addressing crashes and reintroducing the Nvidia DLSS feature.

DLSS: A Double-Edged Sword

Nvidia’s DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) has been a game-changer for many titles, offering enhanced performance by rendering games at a lower resolution and then upscaling them using AI technology.

This tool can significantly boost frame rates, especially in graphically demanding games. However, for “Lords of the Fallen,” DLSS became a point of contention.

While it promised improved performance, it was also identified as a primary cause of crashes for players using Nvidia’s 40 series GPUs. Given the widespread nature of these issues, developer Hexworks decided to disable the feature.

The Return of DLSS

Responding to community feedback, Hexworks has reintroduced the DLSS feature in Patch 1.1.193, albeit with a caveat. Players can now manually enable DLSS using the launch option “-DLSSFG.”

This move allows players who didn’t experience crashes with DLSS to benefit from the enhanced frame rates it offers. However, the developer emphasizes that the feature’s reintroduction is at the player’s own risk, as the underlying issues have not been entirely resolved.

Other Notable Improvements

Beyond the DLSS feature, Patch 1.1.193 brings a slew of crash fixes and performance enhancements:

  • Addressed crashes related to specific in-game items, enemy AI movements, and particle effects.
  • Resolved a rare crash involving the visual representation of the soul’s connection to its victim.
  • Introduced a workaround for the POS Calculation Crash, which involves adjusting compatibility settings.
  • Set the default display to ‘windowed fullscreen with VSync.’
  • Fixed a bug where backstab attacks did not apply the intended bonus damage.

The journey of “Lords of the Fallen” post-launch underscores the challenges and complexities of game development. While the reintroduction of DLSS is a welcome move for many, it also highlights the delicate balance developers must strike between offering advanced features and ensuring game stability.

As Hexworks continues its efforts to refine and improve the game, the community eagerly awaits further enhancements that will elevate the gaming experience.
