The film adaptation of the popular game “Five Nights at Freddy’s” (FNAF) has eclipsed all expectations, setting new records in the cinematic world. Amassing a staggering $283 million globally, the movie now stands as Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing film to date. This impressive sum includes $136 million from domestic (US) screenings and $147 million from international markets.

The FNAF movie’s monumental success surpasses the previous record-holder, 2016’s psychological thriller “Split,” which earned $278.5 million worldwide.

This achievement places the FNAF film in a prestigious league within Blumhouse’s portfolio, which includes other notable blockbusters like “Get Out” and “Halloween,” each of which garnered over $250 million globally.

A Team Effort

FNAF is the BIGGEST @blumhouse film of ALL-TIME. Just passed SPLIT. thanks to Emma Tammi, Scott Cawthon, cast & the New Orleans crew, the Henson team, & our partners @universalpics & @peacock.  @jhutch1992, @matthewlillard, @Piperrubios, @elizethdlail

— Jason Blum (@jason_blum) November 27, 2023

Jason Blum, the founder of Blumhouse Productions, extended his gratitude to several key contributors to the film’s success. Director Emma Tammi, series creator Scott Cawthon, the star-studded cast, and the crew received special mentions.

Additionally, the collaborative efforts of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop in crafting the film’s iconic spooky animatronics and the distribution support from Universal Pictures were acknowledged as vital to the film’s triumph.

The FNAF movie, which premiered at the end of October, immediately set the tone for its historic run by achieving Blumhouse’s biggest opening weekend ever.

Its sustained box office performance has solidified its status as not only Blumhouse’s most successful movie but also the highest-grossing horror film of 2023. Remarkably, the film attained these numbers despite being released simultaneously on the Peacock streaming service.

Star Power and Creative Journey

The movie, featuring Josh Hutcherson (known for “The Hunger Games”) and Matthew Lillard (famous for his role in “Scooby-Doo”), benefited from the creative influence of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

The film’s journey to the big screen was a prolonged one, with notable directors like Christopher Columbus initially attached.

Scott Cawthon’s protective stance over the story and script contributed to the extended development process. However, the wait proved worthwhile as the FNAF movie emerged as both a commercial and critical hit.

Scott Cawthon’s involvement went beyond the production; he personally attended screenings, experiencing the film amidst fans. Cawthon expressed his amazement and satisfaction with the film’s success, indicating that it exceeded even his wildest expectations.
