San Diego, CA (AP) – Just days before the highly-anticipated relaunch of the smash-hit platform fighter MultiVersus, the game’s developers appear to be teasing the arrival of another playable character from the popular animated series Steven Universe.

While the focus has been on the new Season 1 fighters like Joker, Banana Guard, and Jason Voorhees, some cryptic social media posts from the MultiVersus community team caught the attention of eager fans. Specifically, tweets from community manager AJAX_HQ contained coded messages spelling out “We Are The Crystal Gems” – a clear reference to the show’s iconic theme song.

This seeming tease has reignited speculation around which beloved Steven Universe character could be joining the colorful crossover brawler’s ever-expanding roster next. The acclaimed Cartoon Network series is already represented by Steven Universe himself as well as the powerful Gem warrior Garnet. However, fans have been clamoring for other favorites like Pearl, Amethyst, and the villainous Spinel to make the leap to MultiVersus.

“Given the game’s first season theme of featuring iconic antagonists across Warner Bros properties, my bet is on Spinel,” said Samantha Myers, editor at MultiVersusIntel. “Her elastic fighting style and unhinged personality would make for an incredibly unique addition that fans have wanted for a long time.”

Others are campaigning for the sarcastic Gem technician Peridot, hoping her diminutive stature and holographic abilities could make for an intriguing fighter archetype not yet seen in MultiVersus.

Developer Player First Games has remained tight-lipped on the apparent tease so far. However, they have confirmed that all players returning from the previous open beta will be receiving the premium Season 1 Battle Pass for free, along with unique cosmetic rewards like a Banana Guard announcer voice. These player-friendly offerings have only heightened excitement for MultiVersus’ relaunch on May 24th.

As new fighters from beloved franchises like Steven Universe continue joining the incredible crossover experience that is MultiVersus, one thing is certain – the development team is keenly attuned to feedback from its passionate community of players. Their latest coded social media messages suggest another must-play gem is on the horizon.
