You’re not gonna believe this – Deadpool is going to Disneyland! That’s right, the merc with the mouth himself is headed to Avengers Campus this summer. Disney is taking a huge risk by bringing such an R-rated character to their family-friendly parks.
Deadpool will start meeting fans in person at Disney California Adventure starting July 26th. Just a few days later on July 24th, you’ll be able to find him at Disneyland Paris too. His appearance coincides with the release of his new movie with Wolverine. Talk about perfect timing to get people hyped!
I was seriously shocked when I heard Deadpool was coming to Disney. His comics and movies are filled with adult jokes and violence, which is like the opposite of what Disney is usually about. I’m really wondering how much of Deadpool’s personality they’ll actually let him show. Will he get to crack jokes and break the fourth wall? Or will he have to tone it down?
The photos Disney shared do hint at some changes to his costume. Thankfully, he’s still wearing his signature red and black suit. But it looks like his guns are MIA. I guess they thought toy weapons wouldn’t fly in the parks. Other than that, the suit looks insanely detailed – you’d never know it wasn’t really him!
At the end of the day, I’m intrigued to see how Disney navigates this. Deadpool is such an unusual pick for their parks. I want to find out if he can balance being his hilarious, irreverent self without scaring any little kids. This will definitely be an experiment to watch! Only time will tell if more mature characters may show up in Disney lands in the future too. Looks like we’ll all need to head to the parks this summer to find out!
