This September, get ready for an awesome new Western movie called “The Thicket“! The film is a dark reimagining of classic cowboy stories, with some pretty intense action scenes. What makes it so cool is how it mixes up the usual tropes of the genre.
Directed by Elliott Lester, “The Thicket” is based on a novel of the same name. It stars Peter Dinklage as Reginald, a sneaky bounty hunter, and Juliette Lewis as Cutthroat Bill, the leader of a terrifying gang. The movie takes place in Texas a long time ago.
Reginald is out to catch Cutthroat Bill’s gang after they kidnap the sister of an innocent guy named Jack, played by Levon Hawke. In an unlikely pairing, Reginald and Jack team up on a dangerous rescue mission into the Big Thicket wilderness – a super dangerous no man’s land.
The trailer gives a glimpse of the film’s grim vibe and electric chemistry between Dinklage and Lewis. In one intense scene, Cutthroat Bill calls Reginald “the littlest man I’ve ever seen.” Reginald fires back, “You’re the ugliest!” Their witty insults hint at the complex relationships in this reimagined Wild West setting.
As a producer on the film, Dinklage explained why he got so excited about “The Thicket.” He compared it to Heart of Darkness, saying it explores what horrors lie down unknown paths and how journeys change people.
Lewis seemed pumped about her “seemingly indestructible” character Cutthroat Bill too. She said Bill’s unique voice shows her “mangled resilience” perfectly.
The movie also stars up-and-comers like Esmé Creed-Miles and Macon Blair, along with famous performers Arliss Howard, Leslie Grace, Gbenga Akinnagbe – and even Metallica guitarist James Hetfield!
“The Thicket” has been a long time dream of Dinklage’s. The script was written by Chris Kelley. It was filmed in Calgary, Canada and will premiere at a French film festival in August before its big US release on September 6th.
Judging by the sneak peek trailer, get ready for an action-packed but complex story that shakes up the typical cowboy genre. With such a stellar cast, “The Thicket” is sure to make this fall a seriously awesome time for movie fans!
