Get ready for a whole new take on I Am Legend! Rumors are swirling that Warner Bros. is looking to revive the post-apocalyptic horror hit from 2007 with a sequel. Even better, it looks like they’ve got some big names attached too.
Word on the street is Steven Caple Jr. may be sitting in the director’s chair. He recently had huge success with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Creed II, so he definitely knows how to get big action movies done right. If he signs on, it’ll be a reunion for him and star Michael B. Jordan too since they worked together on Creed II.
The script is already complete thanks to Akiva Goldsman. Both Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan have reviewed it so it must be good! Even cooler, this sequel won’t just rehash the original ending. Instead, it’s taking cues from the alternate cut and having Dr. Robert Neville survive like fans wanted.
Goldsman teased that the new movie will feel totally different than the first one. He described it as an “exciting playground” now that nature has retaken the world. I can only imagine what insane scenarios they’ll come up with in a post-apocalyptic jungle!
It’s said to be decades after Will Smith’s character was the last man on Earth. Goldsman is really leaning into how nature would reclaim everything if we disappeared. Would towering skyscrapers be reduced to ruins overgrown with vines? Would wild animals roam through abandoned cities? I can’t wait to see their vision of Earth hitting the reset button.
The 2007 original was a massive hit, making over $500 million worldwide. It told the intense story of Robert Neville’s lonely fight for survival against bloodthirsty monsters. Fans have wanted more ever since that cliffhanger ending.
After years of development hell, I Am Legend 2 is picking up serious momentum. With that combo of Will Smith, Michael B.
