Alyson Hannigan Hopes to Delay Kids’ Viewing of “American Pie” Despite Taylor Swift Reference

Alyson Hannigan, known for her roles in popular movies and television shows, hopes to delay her teenage daughters viewing of the “American Pie” films for as long as possible. Hannigan starred in all four installments of the R-rated comedy series, which began in 1999 and ended in 2012. While aware of the movies’ cultural influence, the actress is concerned about its graphic sexual situations and crude humor being inappropriate for her 15-and 12-year-old.

In a recent interview, Hannigan expressed her apprehension over her daughters watching “American Pie.” She called it the one project she most dreads them seeing. Hannigan worries the explicit scenes may not be suitable for their age. The original movie especially centers around a group of high school seniors striving to lose their virginity before graduation.

Despite the franchise’s success, Hannigan wants to stall her children watching until college if able. She said “I’m hoping I can just ride it out until they’re in college.” Hannigan has carefully selected which past roles to share based on her daughters’ ages when interested, like her hit shows “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “How I Met Your Mother.” In elementary school, they were still too young for some contents from her career.

Interestingly, Hannigan noted pop singer Taylor Swift may have inadvertently piqued her daughters’ curiosity in “American Pie.” A lyric about viewing the film from Swift’s recent album brings renewed attention. However, Hannigan says her children have not mentioned it to her. She joked pretending if Swift and football player Travis Kelce watched the movies with her daughters instead.

Hannigan seems to be handling the situation lightly. But her concerns highlight challenges facing actors with mature roles later becoming parents. As she continues balancing work and family, Hannigan hopes postponing viewing of “American Pie” for as long as feasible. Yet enduring popularity and new pop culture references could test keeping it from their radar long-term.
