The hit HBO drama series Big Little Lies may return for a third season, though details remain scarce. Nicole Kidman, who stars in and produces the show, recently told Vanity Fair that the writers are working on a new season. However, cast members say they know little about potential plans or timelines.
Kidman said the show’s author, Liane Moriarty, is providing material for another book that will serve as the foundation. But Kidman gave few other specifics, worried that discussing projects too early could lessen the drive to complete them.
While Kidman affirmed work is happening, other stars say they’ve received limited information. Zoe Kravitz, who plays Bonnie Carlson, told People magazine she’s awaiting script details like any other fan. Kravitz remains enthusiastic to reprise her role if given the chance.
Shailene Woodley, who portrays Jane Chapman, also said she knows just rumors and speculation. “Apart from gossip and rumors that I’m hoping are true, I don’t know any definitive details,” Woodley stated.
The second season ended with the main characters apparently turning themselves in after various revelations. This conclusion opened up new potential storylines and directions. Some think focus could shift to Younger characters like Ziggy Chapman, played by Iain Armitage, or Abigail Carlson, played by Kathryn Newton.
Kravitz herself speculated about her character’s future, joking Bonnie may be divorced now — something good for her character. This hints writers may further develop certain plots and relationships.
Big Little Lies has received widespread acclaim since debuting in 2017, winning numerous awards for its performances and storytelling. Adding Meryl Streep further elevated the second season. While plans form, fans and actors now await more news on what’s ahead for this acclaimed drama series.
