Top film studio AGBO has hired Dr. Dominic Hughes as its first Chief Science Officer. Hughes will direct AGBO’s efforts to incorporate emerging artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into its filmmaking process.
AGBO was founded in 2017 by famous directors Anthony and Joe Russo. Known for big budget Marvel movies like “Avengers: Endgame,” the Russo Brothers have led the company’s innovative approach. Their latest move is to empower artists through collaborative AI tools.
As Chief Science Officer, Hughes will develop “AI-enabled solutions” across AGBO’s movies and shows. Hughes has expertise from his Oxford PhD and past roles at tech giants. He comes to AGBO from the University of California, Berkeley where he studied advanced technologies.
According to Angela Russo-Otstot, AGBO’s Chief Creative Officer, the company wants to ensure technologies enhance but don’t replace human creativity. She said AI will be an extra tool for collaborative storytelling. Hughes echoed this vision, expressing excitement to partner with artists shaping filmmaking’s future.
Hughes and the Russo Brothers see great potential in AI. As the entertainment industry rapidly adopts generative technologies, they believe smart systems can boost visuals, narratives, and all stages of production. However, their “creative-led” focus maintains human judgment at the forefront.
Since launching, AGBO has produced acclaimed movies like the Oscar-winner “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” With Netflix projects and more Marvel films on deck, hiring an AI expert reflects AGBO’s forward-thinking as the industry continuously transforms storytelling.
