Doja Cat has addressed reactions to her performance at the 97th Academy Awards, where she took the stage alongside Lisa and Raye for a tribute to classic James Bond theme songs. The performance featured Lisa singing Live and Let Die, Doja Cat taking on Diamonds Are Forever, and Raye closing with Skyfall.
The tribute began with a dance sequence by Margaret Qualley, who wore a red satin dress in a nod to Bond film history. The performance has since sparked discussion online, with some praising the approach while others questioned how well the songs were executed.
Doja Cat shared her thoughts on the experience in an Instagram post, writing, “I never get to sing like that, and what I did was brave and scary as f— for me. I know a lot of people didn’t like it, but a lot of people did, and I feel good that I pushed myself. The song is a classic and I put a lot of work into it, but the nerves got to me, and a b**** hit some flats. I can’t wait to do something like that again. What a blessing that was. I feel amazing about the whole thing. Bye.”
Raye also reflected on the night, saying she had concerns about taking on an Adele song but embraced the opportunity. “Was sooo nervous to sing this song because no one can sing Adele like Adele, but I tried my very best. I am just so grateful to the Oscars Academy for this invitation to sing on this stage,” she posted.
Lisa, who is currently appearing in The White Lotus Season 3, shared on social media that she was happy to be reunited with her Born Again collaborators at the event.
Online reactions have varied, with some questioning the choice of artists for the tribute. “Why they selected a rapper for a powerhouse vocal performance, they set Lisa and Doja up,” one person wrote. Others commented on the delivery, with one tweet stating, “A lot of the parts felt very pitchy but overall she did a good job.” Another read, “Huge fan, but she sounded so bad here ngl.”
Some have pointed out that stepping outside her usual style was a bold choice for Doja Cat, while discussions about the tribute continue across platforms.
