Karla Sofía Gascón, nominated for her role in Emilia Pérez, shared her thoughts on social media after attending the 97th Academy Awards. In a post written in Spanish, she thanked the Academy for the recognition and highlighted moments from the night.
“Thank you to the members of @theacademy for the nomination as best leading actress, for the invitation to the gala; I liked it a lot, very entertaining and fun, especially your fabulous host Jimmy Kimmel, he is fantastic, every day he looks more like the great Conan O’Brien. ”
Her comment referenced a moment during the broadcast when Conan O’Brien, hosting the ceremony, made light of the online controversy surrounding Gascón’s resurfaced social media posts. During his monologue, he joked about the stress levels of her publicists and advised, “Karla, if you are going to tweet about the Oscars, my name is Jimmy Kimmel.”
Gascón reflected on reconnecting with colleagues and celebrating the success of her film. “I loved hugging so many friends and colleagues on this return. Congratulations to all the winners, especially @zoesaldana @camilleofficiel @clementducol. Thank you @netflix @whynotproductions_officiel #jacquesaudiard ♥️ Thank you Emilia Pérez for having taught me so many things.”
The film, which led the nominations at this year’s ceremony, won in two categories: Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña and Best Original Song for “El Mal,” credited to Camille, Clément Ducol, and director Jacques Audiard.
