Lightyear’s same-sex kiss scene—between space ranger Alisha Hawthorne and her wife—was reinstated prior to release after internal pushback at Disney, and the film ultimately faced bans in at least 14 markets, including the UAE and Malaysia. The league’s chief executive defended the booking as a contemporary, family-friendly entertainment choice, while some politicians and commentators urged organizers to reconsider.
