Alberto Guerra has been cast as a series regular in Peacock’s upcoming crime series M.I.A., with Edward James Olmos, Billy Burke, and Sônia Braga joining the project in guest-starring roles. Set in South Florida, the drama follows a woman pulled deeper into her family’s criminal operation after a major disruption threatens its survival.
Guerra, whose recent work includes Griselda and The Accident, joins a main cast that includes Shannon Gisela, Brittany Adebumola, Dylan Jackson, Maurice Compte, Danay Garcia, Cary Elwes, Gerardo Celasco, and Marta Milans. Gisela plays Etta Tiger Jonze, whose family runs a drug operation that spans the Miami area. After a shift in the organization’s stability, Etta must rely on instinct and intelligence to navigate a landscape shaped by violence, loyalty, and power.
Adebumola plays a character named Lovely, and Jackson appears as Stanley. These roles were confirmed after the show received a straight-to-series order in August 2024.
M.I.A. is produced by MRC, the studio behind Poker Face. The series is created by Bill Dubuque, who also co-created Ozark. Dubuque is writing the opening episode and executive producing. Karen Campbell serves as executive producer and showrunner. Alethea Jones is directing and also executive producing. Stefano Sollima was previously attached to direct but exited the series due to scheduling conflicts.
The series takes place in South Florida, specifically within Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties. The title M.I.A. references both the region’s airport code and the personal disorientation Etta experiences as her life is turned inside out.
The addition of Olmos, Burke, and Braga brings further attention to the project. Olmos has appeared in American Me, Stand and Deliver, and numerous television dramas. Burke is known for roles in Maid and the Twilight franchise. Braga’s recent appearances include The First Omen and Shotgun Wedding.

The show is part of a growing collection of South Florida-set crime dramas that focus on the intersections of organized crime, identity, and regional history. Other recent examples include Griselda, Narcos, and Hotel Cocaine, as well as earlier series such as Dexter, which used the Miami setting to frame its character-driven narratives. Showtime’s Dexter: Original Sin prequel series, set in the same location, is also in development.
Peacock and MRC continue to collaborate on scripted titles across genres. In addition to M.I.A., MRC is behind Poker Face, which is expected to return for a second season, and Ted, the comedy based on the Seth MacFarlane films, which completed its second season earlier this year.

A premiere date for M.I.A. has not been announced. The series remains in active development, with additional casting and production details expected to follow.
