Netflix’s breakout hit series ‘Wednesday’ is fortifying its cast with powerhouse talent for its much-awaited second season. Emmy-winning actress Thandiwe Newton, renowned for her acclaimed role in ‘Westworld,’ and veteran actor Steve Buscemi have been tapped for undisclosed roles in the upcoming installment of the supernatural comedy-drama.

According to sources close to the production, details about Newton and Buscemi’s characters are being kept tightly under wraps. However, speculation is rife that the seasoned actors might portray new staff members at the ominous Nevermore Academy, potentially stepping in as the institution’s new leadership following the events of season one.

The additions of Newton and Buscemi are expected to elevate the already stellar ensemble, led by the inimitable Jenna Ortega, who garnered widespread praise and a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of the iconic Wednesday Addams. Other returning cast members include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Fred Armisen as the eccentric Uncle Fester.

‘Wednesday’ quickly became a cultural phenomenon upon its debut in November 2022, emerging as the second most-watched English-language series on Netflix and earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. The Tim Burton-produced show’s success prompted an expeditious renewal for a second season in January 2023.

However, production on the new season faced delays due to the ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union. With the industrial actions now resolved, the wheels are finally in motion for ‘Wednesday’ to continue its spooky adventures.

In a previous interview, Ortega teased that the creative team aims to “lean into the horror more” in the upcoming season, hinting at an even darker and more chilling narrative for the iconic Addams Family’s eccentric daughter.

While plot details remain scarce, the addition of accomplished actors like Newton and Buscemi to the ‘Wednesday’ ensemble has only heightened anticipation for the series’ highly anticipated return, scheduled for a 2025 premiere on Netflix.
