Amazon Prime Video is set to explore the untold mysteries of Sherlock Holmes’ youth with a new series titled “Young Sherlock.” The streaming giant has officially ordered an eight-episode season, tapping Hero Fiennes Tiffin to take on the lead role of the iconic detective and enlisting the directorial talents of Guy Ritchie.
Based on the collection of novels by Andrew Lane, “Young Sherlock” promises to offer an “irreverent, action-packed origin story” of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective. While Lane’s books depict Holmes as a 14-year-old, the series will bump his age up to 19, providing a fresh take on the character’s formative years.
Fiennes Tiffin, who previously worked with Ritchie on the 2024 film “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” joins a prestigious lineage of actors who have portrayed the legendary sleuth, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Robert Downey Jr., and Henry Cavill.
Ritchie, known for his distinctive directorial style and films like “Snatch” and “Sherlock Holmes” (2009), expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “In Young Sherlock, we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before.
