Co-showrunner Patrick McKay offered insight into the character. “We know characters can turn from good to evil, even wizards. Seeing how this plays out with Ciarán Hinds’s Dark Wizard should thrill fans,” McKay said. The complex nature of the role points to impactful storylines ahead.
Season two will focus on Sauron, played by Charlie Vickers, rising to power as Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark, tries to defeat him. With the addition of the Dark Wizard, the balance of strengths in Middle-earth seems set to grow more intricate and dangerous.
Questions remain over whether the Dark Wizard will ally with Sauron or act alone. How his presence affects the sensitive equilibrium of strengths in Middle-earth also remains unseen.
