XDefiant is Ubisoft’s newest offering in the first-person shooter genre, and it’s making waves with its free-to-play model and unique gameplay features. With a year of test phases behind it, XDefiant is finally coming to fruition with a range of exciting features and gameplay modes.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the game and explore its factions, weapons, game modes, and unique abilities.

Factions and Unique Abilities

One of the standout features of XDefiant is its factions. There are five factions in total, four of which are available from the start, and one that can be unlocked by playing.

Each faction comes from different Ubisoft franchises and offers unique abilities and an ultimate skill that can be used during gameplay. The Echelon faction offers gameplay for players who like the element of surprise, allowing them to locate enemy positions and make themselves invisible.

Cleaners come equipped with a devastating flamethrower in skill, while Libertad acts as a doctor and can heal themselves and their teammates.

Dedsec is a faction of hackers capable of jamming the opponent’s skills, and they also have the option of using a mechanical spider to annoy their enemies. Phantoms, ancient elite soldiers, can set up defenses and act as support.

Weapons and Customization

XDefiant offers a range of weapons, including handguns, submachine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and shotguns. Each weapon can be modified with up to forty accessories, allowing for a personalized gameplay experience.

However, the game’s weapons currently lack precision and balance, and character movement during combat isn’t very fluid. We hope that these issues will be addressed in future updates to improve the overall gameplay experience.

Game Modes

XDefiant offers various classic game modes, such as domination and zone control, in 6v6 clashes in small arenas. While these modes may not be very innovative, there are some variations in the competitive game, and other modes are set to arrive in the future.

XDefiant’s developers promise to be transparent with the community, continuously monitoring the game with regular updates, and offering new cards, factions, and characters through a season pass lasting three months.

XDefiant still doesn’t have an official release date, but it’s expected to launch this year. The game’s free-to-play and cross-play features could help Ubisoft avoid the disappointment of its previous launch, Hyper Scape.

With its unique abilities and recognizable universes from popular Ubisoft franchises such as The Division, Splinter Cell, and Watch Dogs, XDefiant has the potential to be a serious competitor in the crowded first-person shooter market. If you’re interested, you can register for the closed beta and form your own opinion.
