Diablo IV has issued a compelling challenge: the first 1,000 players to reach level 100 in the notoriously unforgiving Hardcore mode will earn a unique honor. Upon providing proof of their achievement via a tweet to @Diablo, these dedicated gamers will have their usernames forever etched onto a statue of the enigmatic character, Lilith.
Hardcore mode is renowned for its high stakes – when a player dies in this mode, their character is permanently eradicated. The lure of having their name etched in Diablo IV history is expected to spur countless attempts, many of which will end in intense moments of character loss.
The Monument of Triumph: Where? What? How?
As to the whereabouts and future plans for the statue, Diablo IV has been decidedly tight-lipped. What matters to them, and indeed to the competing players, is the captivating chase for this symbolic victory. The tantalizing prospect of having one’s name immortalized in Diablo IV lore seems to make the struggle for survival even more enticing.
Blizzard, the game developer, has also clarified that usernames deemed inappropriate or offensive will not be considered for this honor.
Participation Mechanics
The terms and conditions of this contest stipulate that the first 1,000 players meeting all eligibility criteria and tweeting a public post to @Diablo with the hashtag #Diablo4Hardcore, their complete http://Battle.net BattleTag, and photographic or video proof of achieving level 100 in Diablo IV’s Hardcore mode (and earning the “Tempered Champion” title) using the same http://Battle.net account, will find their BattleTag inscribed on a chosen Blizzard statue.
The unveiling of this contest is a part of an extensive marketing campaign designed to boost anticipation for Diablo IV. A chocolate shop opened by the demoness Lilith in London, selling edible chocolate human skulls, and the “Demon Meat Shake” tasting are just a couple of the unorthodox promotional stunts leading up to the game’s release.
Among these promotional efforts, there’s a highly dramatic live-action trailer directed by Eternals’ Chloe Zhao that curiously puts much emphasis on direct eye contact.
This was launched four weeks in advance, cheekily dubbed a ‘launch trailer’ despite its premature release. We’ll leave the lesson in semantics to the Diablo marketing team.
