NetherRealm Studios commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Mortal Kombat franchise last week, and a video released during the celebration hinted at the imminent reveal of the series’ next installment.
Recently, the developers shared a brief teaser, further indicating that more information about Mortal Kombat 12 will be unveiled soon. However, this teaser has sparked a multitude of speculations.
Mysterious Teaser Fuels Reboot Theories
The enigmatic teaser was posted on the brand’s official Twitter account. Accompanied by the words “It’s almost time,” the clip features a clock hand pausing momentarily at the number 11 – denoting the series’ previous installment – before abruptly “exploding” and landing on the number 1. While this sort of announcement may appear insignificant to some, other fans have interpreted it differently.
Many Mortal Kombat enthusiasts suggest that the clock’s display of the number one implies that Mortal Kombat 12 could potentially be a reboot of the series.
Others speculate that NetherRealm Studios might be developing a remake of the very first installment of the renowned fighting game franchise. Which of these theories will prove accurate? We hope to find out in the near future.
