The much-loved saga of Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is slated for a grand finale, as confirmed by the dynamic writing team, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
In a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight, the duo shed light on their narrative arc for the franchise. When asked if they had always planned the series as a trilogy, Miller responded candidly, “We always knew there was more to tell and that there’s a lot to explore, but it wasn’t until we were working on [Across the Spider-Verse] that we realized that this was the middle piece.”
From Chaos to Closure
Miller proceeded to share their journey of piecing together the plot, saying, “So now, we actually have a proper plan and know what we’re doing. At the time, we were just painting ourselves into a corner and trying to find a way out.”
He acknowledged that while the upcoming film will bring a conclusion to Miles’ journey, Across the Spider-Verse lays the foundation for several other characters.
This could imply that the series may proceed, albeit with a different focal point. When asked about their future plans, Miller humorously remarked, “But yeah, that’s it for us. We’re so tired.”
A Multiverse of Adventure and Emotions
The sequel to the 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, features the return of Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore), who reunites with Gwen Stacy (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld). The adventure takes a wild turn as they are thrown into the Multiverse, meeting various Spider-People and traversing multiple realities.
As the team faces a formidable new menace, Miles is caught in the crosshairs of his fellow webslingers. This predicament forces him to rethink the essence of heroism as he fights to protect his loved ones.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently playing in theaters. As for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, it is set to release on March 29, 2024. However, fans speculate a possible delay in the movie’s premiere.
