Flashback to Gaiden’s Origins
Gaiden was initially announced in September last year and promised to offer a condensed yet action-packed gaming experience reminiscent of prior games in the series.
In terms of the storyline, players will follow the familiar protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, as the game uncovers what unfolded in the interval between Yakuza 6 and Like a Dragon 8.

After faking his death at the end of Yakuza 6, Kiryu plunges back into the crime-filled world as he faces an enigmatic figure determined to coax him out of his reclusion.
With a new codename, Joryu, Kiryu embarks on an enthralling narrative, delivering exhilarating combat in vibrant locations, and a cast of captivating characters.
Kiryu will exhibit dual fighting styles. The Yakuza style seems akin to the well-known brawler style, while the other, the Agent style, promises “absolute speed and precision” along with high-tech tools like electrified bind wires.
Fans will rejoice as the beloved pocket circuit racing makes its comeback as a minigame. Other engaging activities such as karaoke, featuring fresh songs, and a live-action cabaret club are part of the package, staying true to the classic Yakuza game recipe.
Tri-City Travels and Bonuses
Gaiden will transport players to three distinct locales: Sotenbori, Yokohama, and a cryptic Castle. To unlock sub-missions, players will need to converse with a contact named Akame. In a promising move, the PS4 versions of Gaiden (both digital and physical) will offer a free upgrade to the PS5 digital edition.
