Diablo 4 Considers Removing Character Resets for Future Seasons

Discover the potential for a game-changing feature in Diablo 4 that could allow players to continue their journey with existing characters in upcoming seasons.

In the world of Diablo, the concept of starting fresh with a new character every season has been the norm. However, Diablo 3 introduced a feature called “Rebirth” that allowed players to carry over existing characters into new seasons. Although the character reset was still present, it provided a glimmer of hope for the future of Diablo seasons.

In Diablo 3’s Rebirth feature, characters were transferred to a new season, but their items were left behind. This meant starting at level 1 and working towards rebuilding their gear and power. While this may seem like a minor improvement, it offered the opportunity for players to continue their journey with a familiar character, forging new adventures and experiences each season.

Considering the Possibilities: Rebirth in Diablo 4?

Diablo IV

The introduction of Diablo 4 has sparked discussions about whether the Rebirth feature from Diablo 3 could make its way into the game. Players have expressed their desire to carry forward their beloved characters, avoiding the need to create new ones each season. Adam Fletcher, the global community development director, has acknowledged the community’s interest, stating that “the team is aware” of the desire for such a feature.

While the Rebirth feature is not currently available in Diablo 4, this acknowledgment provides a glimmer of hope for the future. With the expanded character customization options in Diablo 4, the inclusion of a Rebirth feature would be even more valuable, allowing players to retain their character’s unique appearance and continue their journey with a sense of familiarity.

The Current State of Seasons: What Can Be Carried Over?

In Diablo 4’s current state, only certain aspects can be carried over from season to season. These include campaign completion, discovered areas, and progress made with Altars of Lilith. However, all other aspects, such as items and character appearance, are reset, requiring players to start anew each season.

For those who have meticulously crafted their characters’ appearance or acquired coveted items, the lack of carryover can be disheartening. However, it’s worth noting that at the end of a season, characters are returned to the Eternal Realm (the normal game) with all newly acquired items, except those exclusive to the specific season.

Anticipation Builds for the Season of the Malignant

As players eagerly anticipate the launch of Diablo 4’s inaugural season, the Season of the Malignant, on July 20th, they are left wondering what the future holds for character persistence in seasons.

The introduction of a Rebirth feature, if implemented in Diablo 4, could revolutionize the seasonal experience, providing a seamless transition for players and enabling them to continue their epic journeys with beloved characters. Only time will tell if this highly desired feature becomes a reality, but for now, players are poised to embark on a new chapter of demon-slaying adventures in the upcoming season.
