As you progress through the Diablo 4 campaign and delve into the post-level 50 grind, a whole new realm of challenge awaits. To obtain rare loot and earn Paragon Points, players engage in regular dungeon runs to accumulate XP. However, Diablo 4 introduces Nightmare Dungeons as a variant with unique modifiers specifically designed to make the endgame more intense and demanding.
Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4 offer a fresh twist to the endgame experience. Recently, Blizzard significantly increased the XP rewards for Nightmare Dungeons, attracting more players who consider them a viable option for grinding in the endgame.
Enter Avenger: Enemies Grow Larger and More Powerful
One of the notable modifiers in Nightmare Dungeons is Avenger, which presents an intriguing challenge beyond the difficulty spike. Avenger has the ability to enlarge enemies, making them much larger than their usual size.
Additionally, the modifier strengthens enemies in the vicinity of those you are currently engaged with, creating a growing threat as the battle progresses.
Reddit user IronHeart_777 shared their encounter with a massive version of the infamous boss, The Butcher, thanks to the Avenger modifier. The towering figure of this relentless foe surpassed the already formidable standard version, adding an extra layer of difficulty and intimidation.

This phenomenon of enlarged enemies can potentially occur with any adversary in Diablo 4. As commented by fellow players, examples include encountering an oversized Spider Host, which presents its own unique nightmare.
These situations may not be a common occurrence unless certain conditions align, such as prolonging the battle with one enemy while another remains nearby, waiting to be triggered.
For those immersed in the Diablo universe, an exciting livestream is on the horizon. Blizzard will be hosting a lengthy Diablo livestream on June 6, revealing the theme and release date for Diablo 4’s first season. With Diablo 4’s endgame content, Nightmare Dungeons, and the emergence of enlarged enemies, players can brace themselves for a thrilling and formidable experience.
