In the swirling eddies of gaming nostalgia and innovation, rumors of a remake for “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” have surfaced, igniting excitement and speculation within the gaming community.

According to insights shared by XboxEra’s Nick Baker and Jon Clarke, Sony is reportedly mulling over a ground-up remake of the game that launched one of its most beloved franchises.

This revelation, while not confirmed, suggests a tantalizing possibility for fans eager to see Nathan Drake’s inaugural adventure revitalized for a new generation.

A Glimpse into Sony’s Potential Plans

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

The speculation around a remake of “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” emerges from what Baker and Clarke describe as “evidence” of Sony’s contemplation to breathe new life into the first entry of the Uncharted series. Clarke cautioned that the information they received is somewhat dated, hinting that discussions or plans for this project might have commenced years ago.

Despite the uncertainty and the lack of concrete confirmation, the idea aligns with Sony’s recent pattern of revisiting and remastering its iconic titles, suggesting a strategic intent to rejuvenate its catalog for both new and nostalgic audiences.

Sony’s track record with the Nathan Drake Collection on PS4, which bundled the first three Uncharted games and made them accessible on PS5 through backward compatibility, adds layers to the discussion. The collection’s success demonstrated the enduring appeal of the Uncharted series and the potential for its foundational story to captivate anew with modern technological enhancements.

Yet, Baker and Clarke’s cautionary notes temper immediate expectations, leaving the community to wonder about the viability and timing of such a project, including which studio might undertake the significant task of remaking Drake’s Fortune.

Evidence and Speculation

All the Uncharted 1 Remake rumours have stemmed from my research that I've shared privately, here's the proof that Uncharted Remake was/is in the works. All datamined from a 2020 build of TLOU 2. pic.twitter.com/xEJMcgpx21

Further stirring the pot, Speclizer, a modder and dataminer known for their work with Naughty Dog titles, has unearthed files within “The Last of Us Part 2” that contain numerous references to “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.” This discovery, dated back to 2020, adds weight to the speculation that a remake has been, or was, under consideration at some point.

Sony’s recent endeavors, such as the release of the Legacy of Thieves collection and the PS5’s launch title remake of “Demon’s Souls,” demonstrate the company’s willingness to revisit and revamp its classics. With the remastered version of “The Last of Us Part 2” also gracing the PS5, the pattern of remakes and remasters suggests that an Uncharted remake could very well be in line with Sony’s strategic direction.
