A chilling new cooperative survival horror game is on the horizon that will test players’ skills and nerve like never before. The Forever Winter, developed by veteran studio Fun Dog Studios, takes place in a brutal post-apocalyptic world ravaged by endless war between towering mechanical behemoths. Players must band together to scavenge, explore, and overcome overwhelming odds just to live another day.
40 years ago, runaway technological advancement and ecological collapse brought humanity to the brink, pitting nation against nation in an endless conflict fueled by AI, automation, and unrestrained violence.
Now, the war rages on, but the original causes and participants have long been forgotten. Massive autonomous war machines, some over 13 stories tall, continue their programmed mission of extermination, roaming the decimated landscape and exchanging apocalyptic firepower.
Caught in the middle of these warring titans, small pockets of human survivors must stealthily navigate the ever-changing battlefield, using wits and teamwork just as much as firepower. Enemy forces aggressively coordinate and dynamically react to player actions, patrolling in packs and reacting intelligently. Giants that once dominated the skyline could be bearing down on your position at any moment.
As a battered scavenger in this grim vision of the future, you must build up your arsenal and skills to take on enemies many times your size. Scavenged resources allow you to craft new equipment and weaponry to take on escalating challenges. Stealth, strategy, and skill determine how long you can survive against nearly impossible odds. But working together is the only way forward. No one can go it alone against an enemy that outmatches you in every way.
Fun Dog Studios CEO Branford Miles Williams says The Forever Winter represents a return to the kind of boundary-pushing experimental games that once defined the industry. It offers intense tactical combat, innovative survival mechanics, and an unflinching post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Early footage shows sprawling industrial landscapes patrolled by gunships and mechs, frantic firefights against spider-like automata, and a pervasive sense of dread.
The Forever Winter launches on Steam for PC, with other platforms possible depending on reception. An exact release date has yet to be announced. But one thing is clear: surviving the frozen perpetual battlefield will require skill, strategy, and teamwork. The only way out is through.
