In an effort to help Android users better manage pesky and unknown phone calls, Google is developing a new “Lookup” feature for its Google Phone app on Pixel devices.
The upcoming functionality, first spotted by the eagle-eyed AssembleDebug and reported by PiunikaWeb, will allow users to quickly search for and identify mystery numbers that appear in their recent calls log. Rather than the clunky process of copying and pasting numbers into a separate search engine, the Lookup button will provide a seamless way to look up unknown callers right from the Phone app interface.
This feature is particularly valuable in an age where spam and spoofed phone numbers have become all too common. Rather than wasting time on calls from unrecognized numbers, Pixel users will soon be able to simply tap the Lookup option and instantly access information about the caller, whether it’s a legitimate business, a known scammer, or something else entirely.

The Lookup tool doesn’t promise to reveal the identity of every unknown number, but it should provide a helpful starting point for users to research suspicious calls. By integrating this functionality directly into the Phone app, Google is aiming to streamline the process of dealing with mystery callers, saving users the hassle of jumping between apps or manually searching the web.
In addition to the Lookup feature, Google is also working on bringing its Gemini email summarization technology to the Android Gmail app. Currently available as a separate app, Gemini allows users with Google Workspace accounts to quickly view summaries of their emails. This integration would make the feature more accessible for Android users, providing a convenient way to quickly scan the contents of their inbox without having to open each message individually.
