In a surprising turn of events, Activision is reportedly set to bring back Call of Duty: Warzone’s original and much-loved map, Verdansk, in early 2025. This decision, according to industry insiders, is a direct response to the overwhelming success of Epic Games’ Fortnite OG event last year.
Tom Henderson of InsiderGaming, corroborating information from Call of Duty dataminer BobNetworkUK, revealed that the return of Verdansk was not part of Activision’s initial plans. The gaming giant reportedly made a “massive pivot” in late 2023, inspired by the unprecedented popularity of Fortnite’s nostalgic offering.
Fortnite OG, launched in November 2023, allowed players to revisit the game’s original Chapter 1 map. The limited-time mode progressed through various seasons, culminating in an experience that resonated deeply with long-time fans. Epic Games reported that the event attracted over 44.7 million concurrent players just two days after its release, marking the most successful day in Fortnite’s history.
