We’re already halfway through Season 2 of House of the Dragon and man, this Targaryen civil war is really heating up! But some fans and critics think the show could be even better if it stepped things up in a few areas.
While the dragon battles are totally epic, there seems to be something missing connection-wise with the characters. It’s hard to really root for anyone when we don’t know them that well yet. And as a prequel, it’s a tricky line to walk so we aren’t just watching history unfold.
At the same time, the writers have been praised for sticking so close to George R.R. Martin’s source books. But that faithfulness could be why some of the episodes, like Daemon’s long trip, feel dragged out. The pacing can be a bit of a slog sometimes.
People also seem split on whether they prefer the crazy political drama or want more action. Personally, I think the dialogue-heavy scenes would work better if they moved the plot along quicker.
And there’s been some debate around the female characters – are they too toned down compared to the OG Game of Thrones women? Only time will tell how their stories develop.
That said, millions are still tuning in every week so it can’t be THAT bad. These next few episodes have like movie-length runtimes too, so hopefully they up the ante. With the source material to work with, House of the Dragon definitely has potential to satisfy fans till the very end of Season 2. Fingers crossed it sticks the landing!
