Fans of the immortal mercenary movie “The Old Guard” have been eagerly awaiting news about the sequel for over three years now. The first film was a huge hit for Netflix when it came out in 2020, with over 72 million households watching it in the first four weeks! Work on the follow-up movie has hit some bumps, but it seems like things are finally wrapping up.

Charlize Theron, who plays Andy the leader of the group, talked about the delays at an event recently. She said Netflix went through some big changes while they were working on the sequel. “Our post-production literally shut down after only five weeks of work,” Theron explained. But don’t worry – the actress assured fans that filming and editing are back on track. “We finally got it going again and I’m really excited for everyone to see it,” she said.

The sequel was directed by Victoria Mahoney and filmed last year in Rome, Italy and the UK. Most of the original cast is returning, including KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, and Luca Marinelli. Some big new stars joining in are Uma Thurman and Henry Golding, though we don’t know what roles they’ll play yet.

While an exact release date hasn’t been announced, rumors say we might get to see it by the end of 2024 or early 2025. Matthias Schoenaerts, who plays Booker, recently said the movie is now in the “last stage” of editing. Fans are definitely eager to find out what happens next after that big cliffhanger ending of the first one. Will Andy lose her immortality? What’s the deal with Veronica Ngô’s character Quynh making a surprise return? I can’t wait to get some answers!

Though the wait has been long, it seems like the sequel is almost here. According to Theron, “It’s really good. We wanted to make sure we did it right.” Could this lead to an entire trilogy of movies? Only time will tell. But it sure looks like we’re in for another exciting adventure with these immortal warriors real soon!
