Whoa, the sales numbers for the Xbox Series X are really not looking good lately! New data shows that even the old Xbox One and Xbox 360 were selling better at this point than the Series X is doing now.
To give you an idea, the Series X is currently selling 13% less than the One. And both previous Xbox consoles outsold it by this point too. No wonder there’s rumors about Microsoft ditching the Xbox and just becoming a game publisher.
Meanwhile, the PS5 is kicking butt – it’s actually outselling the PS4 by 8% so far. That’s impressive considering the stock issues the PS5 had at launch. Even the 7-year-old Switch is still holding its own in 2nd place.
I’m guessing this is why Microsoft has been putting games like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush on other consoles now. Upcoming titles might help, but confusing changes to Game Pass and price hikes aren’t winning them any fans either.
On the other hand, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora just came out and sales seem to be going well, since Ubisoft is offering a free 5-hour trial for it on PS5 and new Xbox consoles. They’ve also dropped the full game price in half! Seems like a fun one to check out.
It’ll be interesting to see if Microsoft has any tricks up its sleeve to turn things around. As console sales shift around, different companies are clearly finding success with diverse strategies. The future of Xbox is looking uncertain right now.
