The Planet Express crew is gearing up for another round of intergalactic hijinks as “Futurama” prepares to launch its 12th season on July 29. Hulu has released a trailer for the upcoming 10-episode run, promising fans a mix of high-octane action, outrageous comedy, and deeper explorations of beloved characters.

The trailer, unveiled by IGN, showcases the series’ signature blend of sci-fi spectacle and irreverent humor. From a stage-destroying giant disco ball to “a world of steaming brown coffee,” the preview suggests that Season 12 will maintain the show’s reputation for pushing boundaries and defying expectations.

According to the official synopsis, viewers can look forward to “mind-bending adventures involving birthday party games to the death, the secrets of Bender’s ancestral robot village, A.I. friends (and enemies), impossibly cute beanbags, and the true 5 million-year-old story behind the consciousness-altering substance known as coffee.” The upcoming episodes will also delve deeper into the series-defining romance between Fry and Leela.

The entire main voice cast is returning, including John DiMaggio as Bender, Billy West as Fry, Katey Sagal as Leela, Tress MacNeille as Mom, Maurice LaMarche as Kif Kroker, Lauren Tom as Amy Wong, Phil LaMarr as Hermes Conrad, and David Herman as Scruffy.

Created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, “Futurama” has become a powerhouse of 21st-century adult animation. Despite facing cancellation multiple times throughout its run, the show’s dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim have kept it alive. Out of twelve Emmy nominations, the series has won six, cementing its status as both a public and critical success.

Hulu picked up “Futurama” in 2022 with a 20-episode order, which was split into two seasons. Following the success of Season 11 in 2023, the streaming platform greenlit the show to continue, with the current contract extending through 2026. This provides fans with a rare sense of security about the future of their beloved series.

As “Futurama” embarks on its latest season, it continues to prove its resilience and relevance in the competitive landscape of adult animation. With its unique blend of wit, whimsy, and occasionally NSFW themes, the show stands poised to deliver another round of laughter and surprises to its loyal audience.
