Actress Elizabeth Olsen is willing to play Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe again, but has conditions for returning. Olsen has portrayed the powerful Scarlet Witch in several Marvel films over the past decade.
In a recent interview, Olsen said she enjoys portraying the character when “there’s a way to use her well.” She believes past Marvel projects have effectively used her character. Olsen told FM104 she thinks “people didn’t know what to do with me for a second there.” However, she remains open to future roles if writers develop her character meaningfully.
Olsen made her MCU debut in 2014’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” She had a bigger part in 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and later appeared in “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame.” Her character growth continued in the 2021 Disney+ series “WandaVision,” which explored Wanda’s grief and powers through classic television genres. Most recently, Olsen played the villainous Scarlet Witch in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”
While enjoying her Marvel fame, Olsen aims to build a diverse career beyond one iconic role. She told the Times of London that she wants opportunities “to be building other parts back up for balance,” not wanting to be typecast. The actress navigates franchises demanding commitment while actively seeking new roles.
For Marvel fans excited to see more of Olsen’s take on Scarlet Witch, her comments offer hope – with the caveat that future projects must develop the character meaningfully and suit her career goals. As the MCU expands, only compelling stories aligned with Olsen’s vision will bring her character back.
