Actor Paul Rudd has made another appearance in the popular Hulu mystery-comedy series “Only Murders in the Building.” However, Rudd is not reprising his previous role from Season 3. This time, he is playing Glen Stubbins, the former stunt double of a character who was killed last season.
The show follows three strangers who bond over their love of true crime and suddenly find themselves entangled in one. In the current fourth season, characters Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are investigating the death of their friend Sazz Pataki, played by Jane Lynch, who was a longtime stunt double for Charles.
Rudd takes on the role of Glen Stubbins, who was the stunt double for Rudd’s previous character from Season 3. Through interacting with Glen, the protagonists learn new details about Sazz’s life and career. Glen guides Charles to a chiropractor named Dr. Maggie, where Charles has flashbacks revealing his close friendship with Sazz and the sacrifices she made.
The episode features an unusual wake for Sazz organized by Glen at a bar frequented by stunt performers. Charles lies on a pool table as others break fake bottles over his head, recreating how Sazz’s body may have looked. However, things take a chaotic turn when Glen uses a real bottle by accident. Intertwined with Charles’ emotional memories of Sazz, this tribute fittingly honors her unique personality.
By exploring Sazz’s character further after her death, the show adds layers and makes her more compelling figure. Rudd’s new character as Stubbins also drives the plot forward productively while providing moments of humor. As the hit series continues to mix genres skillfully, fans await what other surprises the creative team imagines for its fifth upcoming season.
