Warner Bros. Discovery will be launching their Max streaming platform in new markets across Asia starting November 19, 2024. The service will become available in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Hong Kong. This expansion will bring Max’s total worldwide reach to over 72 countries.
JB Perrette, president of Global Streaming & Games at Warner Bros. Discovery, expressed excitement about introducing Max to more consumers in Asia. He stated the service would provide “unparalleled quality content from iconic brands like HBO, Discovery, DC Universe, Harry Potter, AFN, and Cartoon Network.” Subscribers could enjoy Hollywood blockbusters alongside programming from these well-known sources all in one place.
The Asian launch represents the next stage of Max’s global rollout after successful launches in the United States, Latin America, and Europe. The streaming platform aims to deliver a full entertainment experience featuring content from various Warner Bros. Discovery brands.
Viewers can expect a diverse array of shows, including acclaimed HBO series such as “Game of Thrones” and “Succession.” Max Originals like “Creature Commandos” and “Dune: Prophecy” will also be accessible. Popular franchises like Harry Potter along with recent Warner Bros. theatrical releases such as “Dune: Part Two” and “Godzilla vs. Kong: Dominion” will stream on the service. Additionally, Max will introduce unscripted programs from Discovery, TLC, HGTV, and other networks to Asian audiences for the first time. Popular documentary styles shows such as “Deadliest Catch” and “Property Brothers” will be viewable through the streaming service.
Subscribers can choose between Standard and Ultimate plans. The Standard plan permits HD streaming on two devices simultaneously and 30 downloadable titles. Ultimate provides 4K UHD playback where available, streaming access across four devices simultaneously, and 100 downloads. Pricing details vary by country and provider, with mobile-only options available in select Southeast Asian markets through partners there. Current HBO Go subscribers in some areas will automatically transition to Max, upgrading their subscriptions.
The user interface aims to simplify the streaming experience. Personalized recommendations, efficient search functions, and brand/genre specific areas help users discover content. Profiles allow customization and five can be created per account. Warner Bros. Discovery also hinted at expanding Max to Australia in early 2025 as growth continues globally. The new Asian territories will further diversity Max’s library and represent another step forward in the service’s worldwide rollout.
