Avatar: Fire and Ash Hits Disney+ on June 24 After $1.49 Billion Global Run

Avatar: Fire and Ash, James Cameron’s third chapter in his Pandora saga, lands on Disney+ on June 24 — arriving via streaming after a 196-day theatrical run that pushed the franchise into historically unprecedented territory.

Sigourney Weaver announced the Disney+ date onstage at Disney’s Upfront presentation in New York. The film had already been available for digital download since March 31 and a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD release is set for May 19, making the June 24 Disney+ premiere the final stage of its home entertainment rollout.

Fire and Ash grossed $1.49 billion worldwide, with $404.3 million coming from domestic ticket sales and $1.08 billion from international markets. That figure makes it the lowest-grossing entry in the Avatar series — yet still the third blockbuster from 2025 to cross $1 billion at the global box office, joining Disney’s own Lilo & Stitch remake and Zootopia 2. With the trilogy’s combined earnings, Cameron’s Avatar films collectively became the highest-grossing film trilogy in history.

Cameron directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Fire and Ash won Best Visual Effects at the 98th Academy Awards and took five Saturn Awards, including Best Science Fiction Film and Best Film Direction.

The film stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña alongside returning cast members Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Bailey Bass, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, and Edie Falco. Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis joined the franchise for the first time.

The sequel’s streaming arrival comes with questions still lingering about the franchise’s next two planned films. Avatar 4 carries a December 21, 2029 theatrical release date, and Avatar 5 is slated for December 19, 2031. Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, who plays Tuk in the series, has confirmed that only an early segment of Avatar 4 has been filmed so far — footage shot before a major time jump Cameron has described as central to expanding the story.

Several Disney executives have confirmed that Avatar 4 and 5 will proceed, with further production updates expected at San Diego Comic-Con and D23 later in 2026.
