Pierce Brosnan is pushing back on reports of a rift between him, Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy on the set of “MobLand,” calling weeks of tabloid speculation a “storm in a teacup” as the Paramount+ crime drama heads into its second season.
The reports surfaced in May, when multiple outlets said Hardy would not return for Season 3 amid claims of on-set friction with his co-stars and producers, including executive producer Jez Butterworth. A source told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that Hardy had kept Brosnan and Mirren waiting for hours by staying in his trailer, calling the behavior a “power play” and warning that alienating co-stars of that stature amounted to career suicide. A separate report from Puck News claimed Hardy had also been pushing to rewrite dialogue and offer unsolicited script notes to Butterworth and series creator Ronan Bennett.
Mirren moved quickly to tamp down the speculation, posting a photo of Hardy in character as fixer Harry Da Souza on Instagram along with a message of support. Speaking at the Season 2 premiere in London this month, Brosnan went further, dismissing the entire episode as overblown and praising Hardy directly, saying he considers himself a major fan of the actor’s work and that the cast functions as a tight-knit unit that shows up and moves through production efficiently. Hardy, for his part, called working alongside Brosnan and Mirren a privilege, saying he looks up to both actors.
The three reunited on the red carpet at Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square earlier this month, appearing together publicly for the first time since the rumors began. Brosnan and Mirren play married crime bosses Conrad and Maeve Harrigan in the Guy Ritchie-created series, with Hardy starring as their loyal fixer. Brosnan has said he hopes the show continues for additional seasons, citing the amount of story still left to explore within the Harrigan family.
“MobLand” Season 2 premieres September 18 on Paramount+, with all 10 episodes rolling out weekly through a November 20 finale.
