Nicolas Cage’s return to the horror genre is shaping up to be a truly chilling experience, as early reactions to his upcoming film ‘Longlegs‘ are overwhelmingly positive, praising the veteran actor’s performance as his most iconic and terrifying in the genre.
Directed by Oz Perkins (‘The Blackcoat’s Daughter,’ ‘Gretel & Hansel’), ‘Longlegs’ tells the story of an FBI agent (Maika Monroe) who discovers a series of occult clues while hunting for a merciless serial killer (Cage). As the case takes increasingly complex turns, the agent uncovers a personal connection to the killer, setting the stage for a race against time to stop him before he claims another innocent family.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Hollywood producers Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum shared their reactions to the film, praising its ability to terrify and Cage’s standout performance.
“I watched this thing [Longlegs] and I was bothered. I was really bothered,” Kao admitted, despite not being a frequent horror viewer.
Rosenbaum, who saw the film early to consider potential involvement, echoed Kao’s sentiments, describing it as “truly terrifying” and drawing comparisons to critically acclaimed horror films like ‘The Witch’ and ‘It Follows.’
“The arthouse horror fan base is going to flock to this. It is up there,” Rosenbaum exclaimed, teasing an exciting new trailer from NEON, the film’s distributor.

But it was Cage’s performance that left perhaps the most lasting impression on Rosenbaum, who hailed it as “the most iconic horror Cage.”
“I think it’s been very interesting that Neon has not done any marketing about Nicolas Cage, because he’s iconic in this film,” Rosenbaum noted, suggesting that the actor’s involvement has been intentionally downplayed to allow the film to stand on its own merits.
‘Longlegs’ is part of a trend for Cage in 2024, with the actor also starring in the apocalyptic horror thriller ‘Arcadian’ and the thriller ‘The Surfer,’ cementing his recent foray into the genre after previous memorable roles in films like ‘The Wicker Man,’ ‘Color Out of Space,’ and ‘Mandy.’
With early reactions praising ‘Longlegs’ as a truly terrifying and elevated horror experience, and Cage’s performance being hailed as his most iconic in the genre, audiences can expect a chilling and unforgettable cinematic experience when the film hits theaters later this year.
