Bethesda has delivered a substantial update for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions of Fallout 4, granting players greater control over the game’s graphical fidelity and performance. The patch, which also includes bug fixes for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions, addresses a long-standing request from the community.
One of the most significant additions in this update is the implementation of graphics settings tailored for next-gen consoles. Players on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can now choose a target frame rate of 30, 40 (for displays supporting 120Hz), or the default 60 frames per second. This newfound flexibility allows users to prioritize either visual quality or performance based on their preferences and hardware capabilities.
Furthermore, Bethesda has introduced a “Visual and Performance Prioritization” option, enabling players to emphasize either visuals or performance while trying to maintain their chosen frame rate target. The developer recommends opting for the “Performance” mode if aiming for 60 frames per second, as both modes may dynamically adjust the internal resolution during demanding scenes or intense action sequences.
It’s important to note that these graphical settings can only be adjusted from the main menu, ensuring a seamless experience without disrupting gameplay sessions.
Alongside the visual enhancements, the update also addresses various bugs and stability issues reported by the community. General stability improvements have been implemented, and visual glitches with certain image spaces have been resolved. On the Xbox Series X|S, Auto HDR functionality has been re-enabled, and an issue with the load order menu’s reserved space display has been fixed.
PC players will benefit from a fix addressing a widescreen mode issue with the character name field, while all platforms will enjoy improved stability related to mod downloads and crashes occurring when returning to the main menu with mods still queued for download.
Additionally, the update addresses material swap issues, load order problems that could break DLC functionality until a restart after downloading mods (on PS5), and a crash that could occur when connecting to the network after a suspend/resume with the network disabled (on Xbox One).
Bethesda has also included fixes for certain Creation Club content, resolving missing art issues that affected specific Creations.
With this comprehensive update, Fallout 4 on next-gen consoles and PC now offers players greater control over their visual experience, allowing them to tailor the game’s graphics and performance to their individual preferences. Whether prioritizing eye-catching visuals or smooth, consistent frame rates, this patch empowers players to customize their journey through the post-apocalyptic wasteland according to their desired playstyle and hardware capabilities.
