This year 2022 has been a busy one in the TV series world, as two heavyweights such as House of the Dragon and Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power competed head to head for several weeks.
Lord of the Rings series took us back to the Second Age of the Sun from Tolkien’s legendarium, though it took some license when it came to telling the story of Galadriel, Sauron and company.
The casting also took quite a bit of criticism for some creative decisions that, to some fans, degraded the quality of the series.
Still, Rings of Power racked up more than 25 million viewers on its first day and a cumulative viewing total of more than 24 billion minutes.
Those numbers indicate that the first season of the series was a success for Prime Video that outweighs any criticisms that the cast or licensing in the story may raise.
With that in mind, and given that season 2 is already in production in the U.K., head of Amazon Studios, Vernon Sanders, has sat down with Deadline to talk about the future of the series.

The Sanders noted that there is a lot of potential for The Rings of Power season 3 to receive the go-ahead, of at least relevant news, at some point in 2023. Season 2 is not expected until 2024, but it was confirmed prior to the premiere of the first season.
Lest we forget, Rings of Power is intended to run for five full seasons, and it has become the most expensive series in history, making it a major investment for Amazon.
Story is meant to accompany the races of Middle-earth throughout the events that see Sauron’s resurgence before Isildur wrests his power, as well as the One Ring, from him at the foothills of Mount Doom.
We will have to stay tuned in 2023 to see if Amazon decides to greenlight season 3 of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power ahead of the next batch of episodes hitting the platform in 2024.
