It’s a sad day for fans of Henry Cavill’s Superman. British actor has said goodbye to his DC Universe character, even though he returned in Black Adam as the prolific comic book superhero.
As DC Studios had promised, though, Superman is a central part of their future plans, with James Gunn set to deliver the new iteration of the last son of Krypton.
As the director confirmed that Henry Cavill won’t be returning to play Kal’EL on the big screen, James Gunn has revealed that they’ve been working on a new film exploring a younger version of the character for some time.
Since the story, that James Gunn himself will be responsible for writing, will be set in Clark Kent’s youth, Henry Cavill’s Superman, who was already developed, did not fit into their plans.
A reboot of Superman for the new DC Universe
James Gunn explained that this new iteration of DC’s iconic comic book character won’t include an origin story, which is something they were quick to ask him about in the Twitter thread.
For one thing, it is clear that James Gunn is well acquainted with the original Superman source material; filmmaker was a producer on The Son, horror film that imagines an evil version of the character.
But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.

DC Studios is yet to make public its roadmap for DC projects that will accompany us through the next decade, but this movie will be part of it.
It is an era of change in the DC Universe that in just a few days has left us without Wonder Woman 3, Gal Gadot’s character up in the air, and Henry Cavill’s Superman, who elevated fan hype with his presence in Black Adam.
